Haystack Rock

Across from Homer lies magical Haystack Rock, a beautiful rock outcropping between China Poot Bay and Neptune Bay. The site boasts an accommodating rental yurt and plenty of camping space, and lots of room to move: head north, and you can hike down McKeon Spit and into China Poot Bay; head south, and you can enter the “Land of Woz” (we call it the “Woz” because we can’t pronounce or spell Wosnesenski). The Wosnesenski Glacier flows off the Harding Ice Field into Neptune Bay, and from Haystack Rock, you can access the 11-mile-long Wosnesenski River Trail to China Poot Lake. Both these trails are tide-dependent, so bring your tide table or tide app. And the meandering Woz River can make the trail to China Poot Lake challenging, so know the conditions before you go!  Or maybe just hang out for a day or three, bring a party and set up a volleyball net - you’ll find plenty of space to play and relax here!
